You know something is HUGE when it reaches verb status in every day language.

"Google it" has become a phrase synonymous with getting answers, gathering information, creating solutions, and finding where the best sushi restaurant within a 10-mile radius. In fact, "Google it" has become so mainstream, the term itself doesn't even mean you searched for it on Google...it means you used one of the many search engines out there to find what you're looking for.
With the ongoing and increasing popularity of search engine use, it makes the need for a presence on these search engines a crucial necessity to your business's success. Getting found on search engines means more website traffic, more exposure of your products and services, more leads, and more opportunities to close sales and fill orders.

Getting a high ranking on a search engine like Google, Yahoo, or Bing comes down to a few strategies that many people don't know about...and if they do, they're not utilizing them effectively.

First, you need to determine what keyword phrase you want to rank for. If your phrase is non-competitive, meaning a lot of other websites are not trying to rank for it as well, then obtaining a higher ranking on the search engines for that particular phrase is rather easy. All you need to do is place that exact phrase in the tag and one other part of your page.

This may sound easy, but you'd be surprised how many people overlook this simple step when optimizing their website. By adding the proper keyword phrases in the right areas, you can be light years ahead of many of your competitors! And, always keep in mind that Google can't read images. So if the you're looking to optimize a phrase like 'Your Name' and it only appears in an image on your page, Google will not see it, therefore have no idea that your page is about 'Your Name.'
Second, you want to make sure the content of your website is QUALITY MATERIAL! If you want to rank for a keyword phrase that is competitive, then it's important to make sure your website becomes the authority on whatever it is you're looking to promote.

For example, if you want to rank for the phrase 'gas-powered blender,' produce content that makes your site the best resource for gas-powered blenders. For each page you create regarding your product or service, be sure to describe in the tag exactly what the page is about. Then, keep your focus on making your visitor's experience quality and worth their time.
Many people try to manipulate their way to the top of search engines by finding tricks and stunts, when all they really need to do is create a meaningful user experience for their visitors. One of Google's Philosophies is "Focus on the user and all else will follow."

In the end, it's all about the customer and the value you're presenting to them.
Third, place strong emphasis on creating valuable content that contains backlinks to your site. Backlinks are links within an article, press release, blog post, etc., that link back to your web page, such as this one linking back to my website.
Your chances of getting found on search engines will increase based on the number of backlinks out there because many search engines use them to gauge the popularity of a website. If you have quality content on the Web that links back to your site, and others are sharing that content with their audiences and communities, Google and the other search engines will recognize this and deem your site an authority site, thus earning you a higher ranking.

Attention to value and the consumer experience, coupled with wisely optimizing the correct keyword phrases, can improve your search engine ranking ten-fold. Utilize these steps and the next time someone "Googles it," they're going to find you!

Building a strong web presence is as important to your business as motor oil is to a car. Gaining that high ranking on the search engines, as well as being interactive with your customers on various social networks can open brand new doors. My website gives you more information about how you can create unlimited opportunities by tapping into the true power of the World Wide Web.
